I strive to provide the best possible service and experience to my clients by offering high quality services and a safe, private, and comfortable environment.
I understand the importance of being able to trust someone with your personal thoughts and emotions, it is never easy sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings, especially if you don't know the person you're sharing them with. So I thought you may like to know a little bit about me.
Here I am! With one of my many pets, Penny.
I am a huge animal lover and learnt my empathy from working with animals my entire life. I started working at aged 15, initially in a boarding and rescue kennels and cattery, then eventually having the opportunity to train and qualify as a veterinary nurse. I did this for 17 years before deciding to train in counselling.
I chose to diversify into counselling because I felt I always had a genuine connection with people and have the ability to listen without judgement and with true understanding, this always seemed to come natural to me.
I've studied for almost 4 years before qualifying as a counsellor and I have seen many clients along the way, meeting a variety of people with various needs of support, and I really thrive being there with my client in the moment.
During my studies I also got married, we do not have any children together, but we have lots of pets that keep us busy and entertained, and we have nephews and nieces and we adore them all. Our little family is part of what makes us happy.
I love to go on caravan holidays in the UK, that's my favourite hobby! And alongside counselling, I have a small pet care business where I do a lot of dog walking and cat sitting. I also volunteer at Mind, the mental health charity, and with a local animal rescue where I foster some of their more nervous rescue animals and help with their fundraising fairs.
My favourite forms of self-care are going for woodland walks to connect with nature, visiting a beach and hearing the waves wash against the sand (even if it's only Blackpool!) or taking a nice hot bubble bath and watching a bit of Netflix while I soak.
Otherwise, you'll find me out training my dogs and trying to tire them out as they're very excitable Staffordshire bull terriers!
I have had my own mental health struggles in the past, I have lived with anxiety and depression and have worked on myself to get through this. I have suffered burn out in my veterinary nurse job and really struggled with compassion fatigue and imposter syndrome.
I've also experienced a lot of bereavement in my lifetime which has come with it's own difficulties. Each of these personal events has helped me develop a greater understanding and empathy for other people, and this has only empowered me more to want to be with you in your moments of need.
That's me!
I am a qualified person-centred therapist. This is a form of talking therapy that is led by you, the client, with no homework or guidance, simply working at your pace, exploring your thoughts and emotions when you are ready and helping you to understand your feelings.
I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and adhere to their ethical guidelines to ensure I practice in a safe and ethical manner.
I aim to maintain confidentiality at all times and will be my true self as a counsellor to help support you when you need it.
And importantly, if you choose to get in touch, please trust that I will never judge you, I will hear you, I will support you and I will be with you every step of the way. I look forward to meeting you.
Gemma.
